What the work involves
Repainting a good kitchen is one of the best-value changes you can make to a house. The units, worktops and appliances stay where they are; only the colour and finish change. Done properly it looks like a new kitchen. Done badly it chips within months, which is why the preparation takes most of the time.
Every door and drawer front is removed, labelled and cleaned with a degreaser, because kitchen surfaces carry years of cooking residue that will stop paint sticking. Surfaces are then sanded or keyed, filled where there are dents, and primed with a bonding primer chosen for the material, whether that is solid timber, MDF, foil-wrapped vinyl or laminate.
Finishing coats are hard-wearing cabinet paints, either laid off by hand for a traditional brushed look or sprayed for a smooth factory finish. Carcasses, end panels, plinths and islands are done in place under full protection, and hinges and handles are refitted and adjusted at the end.

Straight advice
Worth knowing before you book
Curing time
Cabinet paint feels dry within hours but takes a few weeks to reach full hardness. Treat the doors gently for the first fortnight and avoid harsh cleaners.
Vinyl wraps
Foil-wrapped doors that are peeling at the edges need the loose wrap dealing with first. We will tell you at the survey whether yours are worth painting.

Questions about hand-painted kitchens
Can any kitchen be painted?
Most can, including timber, MDF and laminate units. Doors with peeling vinyl wrap or swollen water-damaged edges may need repair or replacement first, and we will be honest if painting is not the right call.
Can I still use my kitchen while it is being painted?
Mostly, yes. The doors are taken away or worked on in another room, and the carcasses are painted in place, so there are a few days where cupboards are open. We plan around your cooking where we can.
Brush or spray: which is better?
Both give a good finish. Spraying gives a very smooth, factory-like surface; hand painting with modern cabinet paints gives a fine traditional look. We will show you examples of each.
Can you change the handles at the same time?
Yes. If the new handles have different fixing centres, we fill the old holes and drill the new ones before painting.
